My notable person for this week is Prof. Donald Muldrow Griffith, founder and director of Fountainhead Tanz Theater Berlin/USA. Prof Griffith is an American transplant to Berlin who has managed a cultural organization focused on Global Black culture for over two and a half decades. The Fountainhead consortium hosts the well-regarded Black International Cinema Film Festival in Berlin which is accompanied by a significant publication. It also publishes and distributes books, film and new media materials focusing on the black experience in Berlin, a poignant look at the diasporization of a Diaspora black population whose presence, along with those of other new immigrant groups, confronts European countries with a major challenge of cultural integration. Dr. Griffith's television program The Collegium provides a notable forum for engaging such difficult issues and represents an audacious context of independent television in Berlin. The Collegium, formed in 1995, is currently celebrating its 12th year.
